The station commander of Borakanelo Police Station in Gaborone, Superintendent Hambira, has said they are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred after law enforcement officers fired at suspected robbers at a night club in Tlokweng.
Hambira said the deceased was a 34 years old man from Gabane village. He was certified dead upon arrival at the Princess Marina hospital. He added that two other suspects were hospitalized with injuries.
Hambira said one of the injured suspects was believed to be a serving member of Botswana Defence Force. “We do not know whether or not he was on duty at the time of incident,” he said. He said the police found a pistol and live rounds inside the suspects’ getaway car.
But the Managing Director of the Ozone nightclub that was believed to have been targeted, Steven Raman, said they were not aware that they were about to be robbed. He said that Wednesday night there were few people in the nightclub and they had closed around 2 am. Raman said the police later informed them that some men were arrested when they were just about to rob the club.
