The Directorate of Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) has completed a two- year investigation that culminated in three former top employees of Debswana, Louis Goodwill Nchindo, Joseph Malope Matome and Jacob Sesinyi, Mr Nchindo’s son, Louis Garvas Nchindo, an unnamed man of Asian origin and two companies, the Tourism Development Consortium (Pty) Ltd and Golconda Buildings (Pty) Ltd, being charged, it is understood, with 32 counts, ranging from giving false information to a public servant, theft and obtaining by false pretences and forgery.
The accused are expected to appear before Chief Magistrate Lot Moroka at the Gaborone Village Magistrates’ Court on the 31st January.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs Leatile Dambe will represent the State while Mr Parks Tafa of Collins and Newman will represent the accused.
The Assistant Director at the DCEC, Mrs Poppi Monyatsi, said they are not in a position to publicly disclose the charges against Mr Nchindo and his co-accused because the charge sheet has not yet been read to them in a court of law. “The matter will be brought before the village Magistrate Court on 31st January 2008 that is when there will be a public statement, she said.
The Prosecution is expected to call 50 witnesses, some of whom will come from as far as Britain, the United States of America and Australia.
