Matsieng rebel, Ditiro, sings in tongues

When he terminated his relationship with Borankana Premier Group, Matsieng, lead singer, Ditiro Leero, promised music enthusiasts, he would have a lot to say in his debut album.

The promise was that the album would unravel all the mystery surrounding his departure from Matsieng and Eric Ramco records. The album that is supposed to explain the circumstances leading to DT's departure is out now, entitled, Molemo wa kgang, a Tswana phrase which suggest that the singer has a lot to say in the album.

Unless one is good at interpreting parables, they will find Ditiro's album rather unfaithful to the pledge made by the singer to explain why he left Eric Ramco. In one of the songs, Kgosi Lepenyola, DT speaks in parables. He says he ran away from Kgosi Lepenyola's regiment because the kgosi had ordered his regiment to catch him (DT) and castrate him. He explains that he escaped with one testicle, and as he ran away they shouted, "Ga o a fagolega, ga e sa fagolega ga se poo ke tshikela (you have not been properly castrated, you will never be a good bull). He then swears that he will never lose his sweetness, and will continue to dish out sweet songs for Batswana.

In the album’s hit song, Kgakala, DT does not shoot straight to the point but boasts that very soon he will also laugh loudly as he makes money from record sales. In another song he mocks people without mentioning names, describing physical features and leaving it to the listener to guess who is being ridiculed.

All in all, Ditiro's silver vocals appeal to any borankana follower, and the album has already surpassed sales expectations according to Seabelo Modibe of Lekoko entertainment which signed DT. Modibe says their target sales are 15000 copies, but added that it appeares as though that target number will be exceeded. Although the album was released late in the year, it managed to sell over 6000 copies over the Christmas holidays.

"We have not maximized its publicity and marketing yet. Videos will be shot in March, we also have planned to releasea "Ditiro live in concert” video during this year", Modibe said. Should things continue to go in this direction, it is no doubt that Ditiro might just be the next big thing in Borankana music.
